Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Takes the Zombie War to the Third Dimension

Watch as Major Nelson details just how different Plants vs. Zombies will get as the franchise expands into the third-person shooter genre.
This hands on video depicts the numerous changes that PopCap have implemented while going into the third dimension in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. Obviously, the graphics has had a major overhaul to help bring the war to life. Garden Warfare’s multiplayer mode takes major influences from the likes of the Rush and Conquest formats of Battlefield 4. Zombies are always on offense and try to push themselves into further areas of the map, which is similar to the zombies’ spatial advancements in the original titles. The plants must guard, push back and fend off the invading zombie forces.
For the first time ever in a Plants vs. Zombies game, the zombies will be playable. Many of the classes from the original title have been changed to work more efficiently in the third-person shooter format. For example, sunflowers can heal other plants in the area, which means that fortifying yourselves together and staying in groups of plants with your teammates will result in the most efficient way of fighting off the undead. As expected, sunflowers work best when multiple ones are spread throughout the map.
Zombies can summon other players and AI-controlled zombies from random dirt piles throughout the map, with the AI zombies going deeper into plant territory. Plants can put ice shrooms and pea cannons in flower pots throughout the level. These stationary plants will shoot any zombies that come close, which echoes the series’ turret-like tradition.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is due on Feb. 25 for PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
