So, How Is Professor X Able to Walk Again in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’? New Clip Explains

Those of you who saw ‘X-Men: First Class’ will know that James McAvoy‘s Professor X loses the use of his at the end of the film, setting him on the path to become the Patrick Stewart-in-a-wheelchair edition. However, the latest ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ trailers show the telepath walking again, despite the film taking place after the events of the first film. So, how is Professor X able to walk? A new clip from the sequel explains it all.

The ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ clip finds Magneto (as played by Michael Fassbender) reunited with Professor X on board an airplane when Xavier reveals he underwent surgery to his spine to restore his leg functions, though it also relinquished his powers. You can cut the tension between the two of them with one of Wolverine’s adamantium claws. As their conversation escalates and the accusations begin to fly, the Master of Magnetism takes control of the plane with his powers, putting everyone on board (including Nicholas Hoult‘s Beast and Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine) in jeopardy.

The greatest strength of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ appears to be its cast, which combines two generations of ‘X-Men’ actors into one giant superhero smorgasbord. So it’s not surprising that the newest clip from the film chooses to focus on performance rather than visual effects, letting James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender do what they do best: light the screen on the fire.

It’s a shame that the long-rumored Magneto film never got off the ground because we could watch Fassbender play this character all day.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ opens on May 23, 2014.
