On April 18, music fans and vinyl enthusiasts (and unfortunately, losers who flip items on eBay) will descend upon independent record stores across the world to celebrate the 2015 edition of Record Store Day.

Next week (March 10), RSD will be holding a press conference at Rough Trade in Brooklyn to announce the official list of releases (many of which will be from independent labels). Ahead of the anticipated unveiling, though, we managed to get our hands on early details for a few discs courtesy of ORG Music -- and we’re ecstatic to share them with you.

Pressed on 12” orange vinyl, Flying Lessons marks Fool’s Gold’s third studio effort. While staying true to their Afro-pop roots, Fool’s Gold show signs of maturity in their new songs (along with a few surprises). This limited-edition album is exclusive to Record Store Day 2015, and there will only be 1,000 copies available worldwide.

Thelonious Monk, ‘The London Collection Volume 2’

This is the second installment of Thelonious Monk’s final recording session as a band leader (bassist Al McKibbon and drummer Art Blakey are featured as Monk’s backing band). The London Collection Volume 2 highlights eight original tunes and has been remastered from the original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman. This is the volume’s first vinyl pressing in over 27 years, and will be available on 180-gram audiophile-grade clear wax (pressed at Pallas Group in Germany), limited to 2,000 copies worldwide.

Mike Watt and the Secondmen / EV Kain, “S--- on Me” b/w “Striking Out”

Johnny Cash. Jerry Lee Lewis. Roy Orbison. Howlin’ Wolf. Releases don’t get much more legendary than that. This compilation is curated from Sun Record Company’s catalog by Record Store Day stores. Along with the well-known Sun Record guys, there will be deep cuts from some of the lesser-known artists as well. Volume 2 is limited to 4,000 copies worldwide.

Sun Ra, 'Calling Planet Earth'

Recorded at Tivoli Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Dec. 5, 1971, Calling Planet Earth captures Sun Ra in his prime. This marks the album’s first-ever vinyl release with a psychedelic color swirl pressing, which perfectly matches the disc’s far-out material. There will be 2,000 copies available worldwide.
