Serj Tankian Joins Audioslave Members for 'Like a Stone' at Rock Im Park

The musical tributes have been many, but seeing the members of Audioslave paying homage to their late vocalist Chris Cornell with the help of friend Serj Tankian was a special one. The System of a Down vocalist joined Prophets of Rage (which includes the three Audioslave members) for a cover of "Like a Stone" at the Rock Im Park festival in Nuremberg, Germany Saturday (June 3).

Prophets of Rage co-vocalists Chuck D and B Real stepped aside for the Tankian collaboration at the festival, but remained onstage flanking Tankian and leading the crowd in hand claps and waving arms during the performance of the song. You can see fan-shot video posted above.

Tankian recently worked with Chris Cornell as they were both part of the music for the film The Promise. Cornell recorded the film's title song, while Tankian provided the end credits music "Sari Siroun Yar." Tankian told Rolling Stone that they had crossed paths both at Elton John's 70th birthday party in March and then again a few weeks later at The Promise premiere.

"He was doing great, doing press -- fighting the good fight," stated Tankian. “There’s going to be people that are going to mythologize this – ‘the grunge curse,’” Tankian added. “I wouldn’t do that… [Cornell] was 52 years old. He made it through the woods of whatever he was suffering with his life -- his youth and later."

Just a week prior to the Tankian collaboration at Rock Im Park, Prophets of Rage's DJ Lord posted studio footage of his three Audioslave bandmates playing an instrumental version of "Like a Stone" in the studio in honor of Cornell. See that posting below.
