It seems like every movie was filmed in Los Angeles or New York, but several movies have been filmed right here in Washington. We're probably all familiar with the "Twilight" series filmed in Forks as well as "Twin Peaks" around the North Bend and Snoqualmie Falls area, but what about others? Here are some movies that you may not realize were filmed in Washington.

10 Things I Hate About You

This teen romantic comedy is all about Tacoma.

  • 2

    Dante's Peak

This movie was set in a fictional Pacific Northwest town, but if you know your Washington state geography you'll see several landmarks from Mount St. Helens area and plenty around Mount Baker as well.

  • 3

    The Butterfly Effect

This sci-fi film staring Ashton Kutcher wasn't filmed entirely in Washington, but there is a prison scene in this movie that was filmed at Monroe Correctional Facility in Monroe.

  • 5

    The Ring

This creepy film was filmed mostly in Seattle and Whidbey Island. A couple of scenes, like the lighthouse, were filmed elsewhere, but not much.

  • 6

    Benny & Joon

If you know your way around Spokane, you'll find several landmarks in this Johnny Depp film.

  • 7

    The Hanging Tree

This 1959 movie was actually filmed in Yakima, though the film was "set" in Montana. Unfortunately, there isn't anything left from the makeshift mining town they built just off the Naches River. That's unfortunate.
