One of the greatest bands and most influential from the 90's would be Alice In Chains. In my opinion, they took the 90's grunge to a whole new level. Alice In Chains drummer, Sean Kinney, who celebrates his 50th birthday on May 27, is probably one of the more talented of the bunch. He plays drums & percussion, backing vocals and the piano.
Yakima's Memorial Day parade is this Saturday (May 28), starting downtown at 10 a.m. We would love to see you to show your support for our fallen men and woman of the military and to those you have loved and lost. Here is the parade route.
There are a ton of music videos out there. We don't see them very much unless you log on to YouTube and do a search or you go to that artist's website and check it out. MTV really doesn't do that anymore, due in large part to YouTube.
But, looking back, there really were some awesome and well-put-together videos from the '90s. My favorite will always be Blind Melon's "No Rain." My daughter used to call it the "Bumble Bee Song!" HA!
Memorial Day 2016, is for us to remember military men and women who have died to keep us free. Also, to remember our loved ones that have passed on. But, it also marks the unofficial start of barbecue season, and many Americans will be firing up their grills this holiday weekend.
Yakima will be full of true 12th Man spirit this Sunday (May 29), when Seattle Seahawks tackle Justin Britt will be in town to help put on a football camp for kids. He is also doing a meet-and-greet with the public at the River Road McDonald's. He'll be at the restaurant, 3907 River Road, from 4:30-6 p.m. I cannot wait!
I love looking at the clouds. Some people say that I always have my head in the clouds. Well, today the clouds were telling us something. I am not sure why they formed "the bird," but I might take it as "I gotta get my crap together" or "God is flipping us off because of what we are doing to the planet" or "God is channeling Zakk Wylde and that is his way of saying hi!" I like that version better!
It's time to ride again! Yakima Bike Nights, cohosted by 94.5 KATS and 92.9 The Bull, rolls into Jack-Son's Sports Bar at 48th and Tieton tonight (May 24) from 6-9! Join in on the fun and bring your ride. It doesn't matter what you ride, just come and get in on some serious biker action -- metric, sport, street, Harley, Indian or whatever you have. Even if you don't have a bike, who cares? We want you there. This is a chance for you to hang out with your friends and meet some new ones!
Yakima Bike Nights has been amazing so far. Each week 94.5 KATS-FM and 92.9 The Bull meet at a different locations with Owens Cycle, Pepsi and a ton of people. Our goal is to get even more bikes at each event than the last week, and to qualify people to win tickets for our camping and concerts at the Legendary Sturgis Buffalo Chip.
Monster trucks are always great family fun, and this Saturday (May 21) at 7 p.m. and Sunday (May 22) at 2 p.m. Monster Slam 16 roars into State Fair Park in Yakima. The event looks to be bigger and better than any the Yakima Valley has ever seen!
