If you thought Slayer's videos from the Repentless album were badass, just wait until you see what else the band has in store. They've announced a partnership with Dark Horse Comics on a new comic series inspired by their Repentless album.

Jon Schnepp of Metalocalypse fame will pen the three-issue comic series with interior bloodlines drawn by Guiu Vilanova (Twilight Zone, Weird Detective). Glenn Fabry has signed on for the cover art while Eric Powell will illustrate the variant cover for the first issue.

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Kerry King stated, "I think of the songs I write as stories, and if nothing else, they are certainly visual. BJ managed to string it all together so it made sense."

Though the band's Repentless album inspired the comics, King says he's been mostly hands-off with the project with the exception of approving a few concepts. "My philosophy as far as anybody working on anything regarding Slayer, be it the album cover or video concepts, is to let the people who do that for a living do it," says King. "That's how we started working with [cover artist] Larry Carroll for Reign in Blood, South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss. We gave him song titles, lyrics, just things to put ideas in his head."

Schnepp told Rolling Stone, "I'm busting my ass on these because I want to honor the legacy. It can't be corny or jokey. It has to be harsh, violent and very gritty."

Slayer will be appearing at Comic-Con in San Diego this Thursday (July 21) with a special sold-out concert performance at the House of Blues also part of the weekend festivities. The band will take part in a pair of signings on Friday, July 22 at the Nuclear Blast America booth from 1PM to 2PM and at the Dark Horse Comics Booth with the comic's creative team from 3PM to 4PM.

The first in the series, titled Slayer: Repentless #1, is expected to arrive on stands this December. Pre-orders are currently being taken here.
