We wouldn't ask you on a day when the weather is this lousy if it weren't for a good cause.

But here's the deal: After having more than half a ton of food stolen from their food bank Sunday, Yakima's Sunrise Outreach Center at the Vineyard Church is scraping to fill orders for its distribution on Thursday (Feb. 9). So we're asking KATS listeners to help.

If you can, drop off food or cash donations here at our offices at 4010 Summitview Ave. before 5 p.m. today. We'll deliver them to the food bank ourselves.

Staff members at the center,
221 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., reported losing 1,452 pounds of food -- including frozen chicken, eggs, orange juice and cereal -- sometime after church services Sunday.

“It is interesting that so much was taken, Executive Director Dave Hanson told the Yakima Herald-Republic. "You expect someone that’s desperate enough to steal food would have a genuine personal interest, but this was someone stealing to sell or redistribute."
