As concert season slowly comes to an end, some shows are still rocking harder than ever, and so we had our "KATS Roving Concert Goer Reporter" Rachel Thomson conquer Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails at the White River Ampitheater.

Soundgarden delivered a solid performance at White River. The stop in Auburn was part of the band’s “Superunknown” tour, which celebrates the 20-year anniversary of the album of the same name. (Note: The band this year released a four-CD and Blu-Ray deluxe edition set of "Superunknown"). The 90-minute set over the weekend included several songs off the album, including “My Wave,” “Fell on Black Days,” “Mailman,” “Spoonman” and “Outshined.”

About halfway through the set, lead singer Chris Cornell acknowledged a beloved Seattle celebrity in attendance: former Seattle Mariners pitcher Randy Johnson, who was apparently taking pictures.

“You’re taking pictures of me?” Cornell asked. “I should be taking pictures of you. There’s no way I’m f---ing cool enough.”

The set came to a conclusion with “Beyond the Wheel,” followed by drummer Matt Cameron knocking over a speaker. There were no encores.

Notably absent from the Soundgarden set was “Black Hole Sun,” leaving many fans disappointed and confused. (Note: “Black Hole Sun” is on the album Superunknown.) Also disappointing: The large projection screen was out of focus the entire time Soundgarden was on stage. Fans who were not lucky enough to be sitting in the first few rows (or unlucky enough to be standing behind the 6-foot-10 Randy Johnson) probably did not get a clear view of Soundgarden.

The pace picked up when Nine Inch Nails took the stage. Crowds were dazzled by impressive multicolored laser lights and solid acoustics. Trent Reznor and bandmates opened with “Copy of A,” followed by favorites including “Closer,” “Sanctified,” “Hand That Feeds” and “Head Like a Hole.” Crowds were also treated with an encore of “Hurt,” from the band’s "The Downward Spiral" album.
