In case you were wondering, death metal turtlenecks are indeed real. Texas-based company Patricia Rae has launched a line of "vintage turtlenecks from the late '80s‬" with their logo in a death metal font.

The shirt went on sale yesterday for $64, is already sold out. It is unknown yet whether it will be restocked. You can check out pictures of it from Patricia Rae below.

The shirt has begun garnering attention from internet influencers, including bubbling emo-rapper Lil Aaron and pop culture website Casual Fridays. The aesthetic of metal, in general, has become popular in mainstream fashion throughout recent years, with retailers such as H&M, Urban Outfitters and GAP selling shirts with logos of Metallica, Slayer, Guns & Roses and others.

On an even higher level, pop superstar Rihanna used a death metal-esque font to display her name during her 2016 MTV VMAs performance. Justin Bieber and the Kardashians have also been spotted wearing merchandise from legacy metal acts. What are your thoughts on the aesthetics of metal being used in pop culture contexts?
