The studio of The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is working on a new movie directed by Shadow of Mordor's writer and starring Norman Reedus, and it's getting a game of its own.

Polygon reports that Robert Kirkman's studio, Skybound Entertainment, has announced that its upcoming film, Air, will be getting its own video game. Air is a post-apocalyptic science fiction film starring Norman Reedus, Djimon Hounsou and Sandrine Holt. Hounsou and Reedus play two maintenance men who live in an underground bunker filled with thousands of people hibernating in cryogenic sleeping tanks. This bunker is meant to act as seeds for humanity before the population emerges from its longterm sleep to repopulate a world, once its inhabitable. Reedus and Hounsou are meant to wake up every six months for a two-hour shift to do routine maintenance around the bunker before going back to their sleeping tanks with the rest of the population. Things go wrong when one of the caretakers' tanks malfunctions, and all hell breaks loose afterwards.

The Sweden-based team at Gaming Corps will be creating an episode-based adventure-mystery game that will tell a different tale set in the same world as Air. The first episode of the game, which takes place in a different survival bunker, is meant to launch sometime this year on PC (via Steam) and tablet devices. Unfortunately, director Chris Cantamessa and Skybound representatives were unable to mention any specific details about the tie-in game. Skybound Interactive President Dan Murray mentioned that Gaming Corps were looking to Telltale's take on The Walking Dead (in terms of its relation to the comic series) as inspiration on the game's setting. Cantamessa did mention that the game was like "a story-driven adventure game meets Eternal Darkness without being in the horror genre," which caught our attention.

Stay tuned as we'll provide up-to-date coverage on Air's tie-in game once more info is available. Unfortunately, Air has yet to have any theatrical release date attached to it.
