This summer has been awesome for me in as much as it relates to time I've gotten to spend with my 9-year-old son Drew.

Last year he went through the First Tee of Yakima program and learned the basics of the game of golf. As it turned out, he loved it. I asked him this year if he wanted to join the group again. He said he'd just rather play than go take any more lessons for the time being. With that, he and I have been able to hit the links and play many rounds together at the likes of Fisher Park, River Ridge and Westwood.  I usually only beat him by seven or eight strokes. (Doesn't say much for my game, says a lot about his!)

Last week, we found another course we want to tackle together. It is located in Granger at the Cherry Hill Golf Course and Family Fun Center, just off I-82 and about 25 miles east of Yakima.  They not only have an executive golf course, they have TONS of other activities for young and old alike including:

* 18-hole mini golf course
* Pedal kart track
* '50s-era diner
* Old-school arcade
* Batting cages
* Driving range
* Pizza parlor
* Hard ice cream

Drew and I took a spin on the two-man pedal-kart.  My buddy John took some video of us (pretending to almost crash into him) that you can see by clicking here.  John took a screen capture from that video and it suddenly became my favorite picture of me and my son.

This Friday morning, by the way, beginning at 8:30, you can purchase a Family Pass to Cherry Hill for half price - just $50 - from SeizeTheDeal.com.  That's just $12.50 per person -- a small price to pay to create a lasting memory like the one I have with my boy.
