Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has had his hands in just about everything, from film scoring to Apple Music, and now the iconic rocker will team up with previous co-conspirator David Fincher to score an upcoming Broadway rock opera based off of the cult classic, Fight Club. The news broke when podcast host Jeff Goldsmith posted to Twitter that he had spoken to the award-winning novel's author, Chuck Palahniuk, who notified him of the project.

Fincher and Reznor previously worked together on The Social Network, which won an Academy Award for Best Original Score, as well as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and 2014's Gone Girl. Reznor also recently served as a "music consultant" for the Batman: Arkham Knight trailer.

Reportedly, work began on Fincher's adaption after it was conceptualized sometime last year. It has also been noted that renowned theater director Julie Taymor has been assisting on the project. She's responsible for the success of box office hits such as The Lion King and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

This news follows -- and pretty much confirms -- some information Palahniuk shared back in April (via ScreenCrush):

For the time being, I’m keeping it for myself. But right from the get go, when we signed that 60-page contract back in 1996, it gave FOX rights to create sequels and television shows and, so, I don’t have control over a lot of that. Fincher is optioning the stage rights. He’s finally moving on to the big rock opera. David says that there’s been a rock opera for every generation, you know, “Tommy” and then “The Wall,” but there really hasn’t been a really big one for the current generation – and he and Trent Reznor are really determined to make that happen. And David’s been consulting with Julie Taymor, the director, and she’s been kind of coaching him on what it takes to get a huge stage production.

We'll keep you posted as more details emerge around this exciting project.
