Just halfway through the 2014-2015 marketing year - U.S. sorghum exports to China are continuing at a record pace from last year’s record of 165-million-bushels with accumulated exports and sales of 260-million bushels so far. U.S. Grains Council Manager of Global Trade Alvaro Cordero says China accounts for more than 80-percent of total U.S. grains sorghum exports to date this year - and the Council has worked hard with the United Sorghum Checkoff Program to create this opportunity. Recently - a USGC team attended the China DDGS and Sorghum Conference to talk with Chinese buyers and end-users about potential growth.

The Climate Prediction Center - a division of NOAA - says drought pressures will increase in the western region of the U.S. this spring. Center Operational Prediction Branch Chief Jon Gottschalck says periods of record warmth in the West and not enough precipitation during the rainy season cut short drought relief in California this winter. Gottschalck says prospects for above-average temperatures this spring may make the situation worse. This year - the outlook for the West is for the multi-year drought to continue and intensify - extending into the northern Plains.
