Does anyone want to venture a guess as to when the first computer game was invented? And no – its not Pong.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Spacewar, the very first computer game ever created. The game, a distant relative to what would eventually be known as Asteroids, puts the player in control of a spaceship that is buoyed by the gravity of a star in the city of the screen that shoots down rockets. It was originally developed at MIT by four students for the bulky PDP-1 minicomputer which more like a radar machine than it does a contemporary computer.

The classic game is still being updated to work on the latest browsers. If you can get past the dated graphics and obscene difficulty then give it a try here.

This means people have been vegging out, playing video games and yelling at computer screens since the early 60′s. Wow, what a long way man has come.
