Every once in a while, good things happen to people who truly deserve them.

Such was the case over the Christmas holiday, when Brad and Jessica Witters from Yakima's Westside Car Care caught wind of Rose Evangelista's story.

Rose, who has a background of substance abuse and criminal activity, has been rebuilding her life lately.

Since her August release from prison, she's been a live-in volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission. She's worked in a number of capacities at the mission, focusing on helping others get their lives back on track.

So when Westside Car Care -- which was looking for a recipient for their annual car giveaway -- asked the mission for suggestions, UGM's family shelter director, Janet Kerns, mentioned Rose.
