I'm calling this story: JAWS: YAKIMA!

Who knew that if you trip, fall, and break your jaw at the county fair, you could turn around and sue everybody in the city! That's exactly what is happening right now, and the Yakima Herald is breaking open this story.

Girlfriend, (and boyfriend), grab your popcorn and listen to this!

The City of Yakima's response to the lawsuit is basically "Our name is Bennett, and we ain't in it!" and the State Fair Park is taking the "Take it up with our insurance company, please!" response.

  • In 2012, Carol Waters fell down on the sidewalk outside of a gate at the State Fair Park
  • She broke her jaw in five places and sustained broken and chipped teeth (has over $76,000 in medical bills and she still requires medical treatment)
  • She sues State Fair Park, Central Washington Fair Association, and the City of Yakima for $750,000
  • The lawsuit is rejected.
  • Meanwhile, the City of Yakima repaired the sidewalk
  • The City of Yakima and the Central Washington State Fair Association need legal clarification to determine exactly who should be paying monetary compensation to Waters, if any

This story is intriguing, because if companies are liable for these types of incidents, then I predict there will be an increase in the number of lawsuits for accidents of this nature. Pass the popcorn and the candy!
