World’s Largest NES Controller Can Turn Video Games Into Actual Exercise

The Liverpool Street Station in England served as the official premiere of the world’s largest working Nintendo Entertainment System controller, a feat confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records. To heck with your Nintendo Wii or Jillian Michaels’ training game you got to work out with your XBox Kinect — we want to work up a sweat over ‘Tetris.’

The massive classic creation stands at 12-feet long and six-feet wide and works just as well as your average, non-behemoth sized NES controller, except that playing Level 1-1 of ‘Super Mario Bros.’ requires every muscle in your body just to jump over the first Goomba.

Students at the Delft University of Technology of the Netherlands brought the massive device to life by welding together a steel frame across several steel crossbeams to hold the massive button and compressed wood body of the controller. They also had to design their own “light based system” to make the buttons more responsive to reduce wear and tear after repeated use, and that makes perfect sense, because we’re sure that everyone who sees this “Double-D-Pad” wants to play with it.
