Yakima's Biggest Yard Sale lived up to its name Saturday -- Townsquare Media's annual event drew more than 2,700 to J.M. Perry Technical Institute's parking lot and collected more than half a ton of food donations for Northwest Harvest.

Sheri Bissell, Northwest Harvest's Yakima-based community engagement specialist, reported Tuesday that attendees donated 1,314 pounds of nonperishable items for the statewide hunger-relief agency -- more than double last year's total. That means enough food for more than 1,000 meals for local food banks, according to Bissell.

Goodwill's Yakima, Selah and Ellensburg centers sponsored this year's Yard Sale, which included more than 85 vendor booths.

People attending the sale had the option of cutting their admission price by bringing food donations.
