‘Yes We All Care:’ Pearl Jam Fires Back at Melania Trump
A coat worn by first lady Melania Trump earlier this week has brought out criticism from Pearl Jam. One day after Trump was photographed in a jacket with the message "I really don’t care. Do U?" Jill Vedder, the wife of singer Eddie Vedder, wore a coat bearing the words, "Yes, we all care. Y don't U?"
Friday night (June 22), Pearl Jam tweeted out a photo of Jill cheering them from the side of the stage in Milan, Italy, using the text on her jacket as a caption. An attendee wrote on Pearl Jam's forum that, during the show, Eddie said that it was the anniversary of the night they met in Milan, which was followed by Jill coming out onstage and them drinking champagne.
Trump, a former model, was spotted in the jacket, which reportedly cost $39 from Zara, as she boarded a plane on the way to Texas to visit with children who have been detained at the border. The New York Times reported that, although she did not wear it during her visit, she did when she returned to Washington, D.C., later that day.
“It’s a jacket,” her communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said. “There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope this isn’t what the media is going to choose to focus on.”
The show was Pearl Jam's first after they were forced to postpone Tuesday's concert at the O2 Arena in London because Vedder "completely lost his voice." It is expected that the show will be rescheduled for some time in July.
