The annual American Cancer Society Yakima Chapter's 'Relay For Life' 24-hour walk was held at the Franklin Middle School track this weekend to raise money for local cancer patients and to pay tribute to those who have not just succumbed to the disease but to celebrate those who have survived it.

Through myriad ways, the event raised, at most recent count, $78,897.52. Event co-organizer Julia Couchman reported that her team "Brats Bashing Cancer" generated $9,407.41 and her team's children chipped in with $1,708.40.

Young and old alike gathered for the weekend to walk for a cure, enjoy live music and other activities and, of course, shed a tear or two during the luminaria ceremony.
