Avoid the Tricks of Trick Or Treat

It's a choice right? It's Trick OR Treat.  I prefer treat.  In fact I never really was into the pranks and tricks of April Fool's or Halloween.  Do unto others and all that...

But because some do, the AAA has some tips for staying safe and avoiding tricksters on Halloween this Saturday.

The organization says your vehicle is twice as likely to get vandalized on Halloween compared to other days of the year, whether you give out treats or not!

So AAA suggests parking it in a garage or well-lit area, and being sure to have it closed down and locked up. The group also says to be sure to slow down and turn on your headlights earlier in the day than you usually would so you can spot young trick-or-treaters.

In addition, they suggest keeping on most lights near your home during the night as it will help anyone approaching your home, and it will also keep vandals away.

Finally, if you’re hosting a gathering the AAA says you should be sure to serve non-alcoholic drinks as well as food if serving alcohol, and to cut your guests off at least an hour before the gathering ends.

The CDC also reminds everyone that a costume mask is not a substitute for a medical or cloth mask, and you should not wear both because it can make it hard to breathe.

The CDC is also offering ways to stay safe while celebrating. Here are some tips on how to make trick-or-treating safer:

• Give out treats outdoors
• Have treats individually bagged set at a station for kids to take
• Wash hands before eating your treats
• Stay at least six feet away from people who do not live with you
