Coldplay Bring Some ‘Magic’ to ‘Jimmy Fallon’

Fresh off an appearance on 'Saturday Night Live,' Coldplay didn't have far to travel when they turned up on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' last night to perform 'Magic,' the single from their upcoming 'Ghost Stories' album. Both NBC shows are produced in New York City's iconic GE Building, better known these days as 30 Rock.

Chris Martin and the boys also stuck around 'Fallon' to record a web-only exclusive performance of 'Always in My Head,' the new LP's opening track. Check out 'Magic' above and 'Always in My Head' below.

Coldplay are often known to maintain a certain consistency to the elements that make up their visual aesthetic -- their 'Mylo Xyloto' days had those matching drab-rainbow outfits and even synchronized wristband light shows in the audience at some concerts -- and it seems 'Ghost Stories' will be no different, with a dream-like backdrop featuring dangling stars and leafless trees making an appearance on both 'SNL' and 'Fallon.'

'Magic' opened with Martin singing over a mid-tempo electronic beat and mid-range, repetitive bass line, the tune slowly building and unfolding as various other instruments joined in, but never pushing beyond a simple and sparkly groove.

'In My Head,' meanwhile, was more dynamic; ever-so-slightly more upbeat in some parts, just-so-slightly slower and more effervescent in others. Both tunes are certainly worthy additions to the ever-growing Coldplay catalog, although neither adds all that much to the band's sound palette either. If you dig Coldplay, you'll probably get into these songs. Enough said.

Coldplay currently have just a handful of dates lined up in support 'Ghost Stories,' including three in Europe and one in Japan. Their next scheduled concert is on May 19 in Los Angeles. 'Ghost Stories' drops that same day in North America and three days earlier everywhere else in the world.
