Metallica closed out their three-night stand in Mexico City last night by inviting Iggy Pop onstage for a blistering take on the Stooges' "T.V. Eye."

Pop served as the opening act for each of the three shows Metallica played at the massive Foro Sol venue, which drew a grand total of nearly 200,000 fans. James Hetfield welcomed Pop onstage for the final encore, noting that his group "has much respect for the man coming out here to sing a song with us," and asking the fans to show their love for the punk legend.

As you can see by the repeated "Iggy" chants before and after Pop and Metallica's run-through of the lustful song from the Stooges' 1970 sophomore album Fun House, his request was totally unnecessary.

Last night's show also marked the live debut of "Dream No More," a song from Metallica's most recent studio album, Hardwired ... to Self-Destruct. The band's WorldWired tour will visit the United States for about two dozen dates this summer, kicking off May 10 in Baltimore.

Pop's most recent album was Post Pop Depression, last year's acclaimed collaboration with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Joshua Homme. It could very well be his last solo effort, he said. “I feel like I’m closin’ up after this,” he explained. “To really make an album, you really have to put everything into it. The energy’s more limited now.” The resulting tour was chronicled on the live concert film Post Pop Depression: Live at the Royal Albert Hall.
