Today is National Coffee Day. While Seattle may be known as the "Coffee Capital Of The World" Yakima unofficially owns the crown of "Drive Thru Coffee Kiosk Capital of The World." Partly because I don't think anyone is claiming the crown and because there can't possibly be another city with the more than 50 drive up kiosks that the city of Yakima boasts alone. I actually believe the number is over 60 because I counted a total of 68 coffee businesses (cafes and restaurants I didn't count) and aside from Starbucks the only sit down places I'm even aware of are Essencia Bakery & Coffee House, North Town Coffeehouse and Peet's Coffee and Teas.

There are so many drive up coffee kiosks in Yakivegas that if our city were ever to be flooded you could walk from kiosk to kiosk without ever getting your feet wet. Someday I want to try an experiment where I drive from kiosk to kiosk constantly ordering and drinking coffee to see how long I can stay awake. According to a medical study in Italy coffee may ward off dementia. If that's true then in about 50 years Yakima will have the sharpest seniors in the country!
