Gas Prices in Yakima Still Down from Last Month and Last Year
If you’re filling up your tank this week, be prepared for a small uptick in gasoline prices in Yakima. According to a survey conducted by GasBuddy, the average price has risen by 1.3 cents per gallon over the past week, now averaging $3.49 per gallon across 91 local gas stations.
EVEN WITH THE INCREASE PRICES ARE STILL LOWER THAN LAST MONTH
Despite this week’s increase, prices in Yakima remain 13.9 cents lower than they were a month ago and a significant 31.2 cents lower than the same time last year, providing some relief for local drivers. For diesel users, the national average price has seen a greater rise of 1.5 cents in the last week, reaching $3.48 per gallon. In Washington State, the gasoline average remains stable at $3.90 per gallon, unchanged from last week.
WE KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE CHEAPEST GAS IN THE VALLEY
Drivers looking for the best deals in the Yakima Valley can find the cheapest gas at Wheelers Kountry Korner in Wapato, which is priced at $2.73 per gallon as of Sunday. Other affordable options include Costco and Ahtanum Fuel Stop in Union Gap, both of which are selling gasoline for $2.93 per gallon.
THE NATIONAL PRICE IS UP
On a national scale, the average price of gasoline has climbed 5.6 cents per gallon over the past week to an average of $3.03. This increase marks a 3.0 cent rise from a month ago, although it remains 2.9 cents lower than prices recorded a year ago. The data from GasBuddy is based on over 11 million weekly price reports from more than 150,000 gas stations nationwide.
THE PRICE OF OIL DRIVES THE PRICE OF GAS
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, points to recent oil price surges as a major factor in these price increases. "Oil prices have surged to nearly $74 per barrel, the highest level in months, driven by optimism that China's recent economic policy shifts could boost oil demand," he explained. De Haan noted that this has resulted in one of the largest weekly increases in U.S. gas prices in several months.
WILL WE SEE MORE PRICE INCREASES THIS MONTH?
“While the national average dipped below $3 per gallon for a few days in recent weeks, those days are likely behind us,” he added. Looking ahead, GasBuddy’s 2025 Fuel Outlook predicts continued slight increases at the pump in the weeks to come, with a larger seasonal spike expected to begin in mid-to-late February and extend through the spring.
