Red Light Fiascos: Yakima Police Identify Top 3 Intersections
Over the last 2 years Yakima Police have investigated hundreds of vehicle crashes in what the department calls "red light violations." Now they've named the top three intersections where most of the crashes are happening.
WHEN YOU SEE A YELLOW LIGHT TO YOU STOP OR SPEED UP?
Officers say many drivers speed up and try to make it through an intersection before the light turns red and that can lead to a crash. Every week Yakima Police publish traffic statistics and even though the numbers are low sometimes they average 12 to 15 red light crashes every week.
YAKIMA POLICE SPEED PATROLS ARE CATCHING A LOT OF DRIVERS
Over the last week Yakima Police Officers made a total of 602 traffic stops and issued 240 citations. 16 collisions were reported with 6 the result of red light violations. The week before that however Officers made 867 traffic stops and issued 314 citations. 15 crashes were reported with 6 the result of red light violations. 12 drivers were arrested for DUI.
