A Pit Bull attack in White Swan on Wednesday is a reminder of the many attacks, some deadly that have happened in Yakima in the past.

THE CITY BAN ON PIT BULLS WAS LIFTED IN 2018

Despite the attacks the Yakima City Council in 2018 repealed the Pit Bull Terrier ban becoming effective on September 23 of 2018. Instead the city now has a dangerous dogs ordinance that doesn't focus on any specific breed but rather the behavior of any dog. Pit Bull dogs are now subject to all City requirements related to dogs.

ALL DOGS ARE NOW SUBJECT TO RULES IN YAKIMA

They include: Keeping dogs on a leash when they are being walked. Pit Bulls, like all dogs in the City, need to be registered and licensed at Yakima City Hall. Their rabies vaccination must also be current. AN ATTACK HAPPENED IN WHITE SWAN ON WEDNESDAY

On Wednesday, three people were injured in a Pit Bull dog attack in White Swan on Wednesday. The incident is now being investigated by Yakama Tribal Police. Two of the victims were taken to a Yakima hospital for treatment. The attack was reported Wednesday afternoon at a home on Birch Avenue in White Swan. As of Wednesday night the dogs were still on the loose in the area.

ONE OF THE DEADLIEST ATTACKS IN YAKIMA HAPPENED IN 1995

One of the most deadly Pit Bull dog attacks in Yakima happened in 1995 when two dogs mauled and killed a 75-year-old man in a wheelchair while attacking two others who tried to save him. The Yakima man died at a Seattle hospital after the attack.
