
Washington’s Credit Scores Show Slight Drop As 2026 Approaches
Washington State is kicking off 2026 with some new stats that have come from financial website Wallet Hub.
Credit score is that number that can seem to make or break others. Rising debt, late payments, frivolous spending can all play a roll in your credit score.

There have been some increases and decreases across the United States so Wallet Hub took a look at each state from the past year (Q3 2024 - Q3 2025) to see which states are doing better than others and which states are struggling with credit scores.
Washington State hasn't seen much of a decrease compared to other states.
Washington State ranks 37th overall so this means Washington State is 14th place for smallest credit score decreases.
The average score in Washington decreased by .58% between the 3rd quarter of 2024 carried over to the 3rd quarter of 2025.
The average credit score in all of Washington State from 3rd quarter of 2025 is a credit score of 686.
Chip Lupo at Wallet Hub suggests the fastest way to improve a declining credit score is use your credit card regularly, but pay it off each time and on time.
The top states with largest credit score decreases have Missouri in first place followed by Georgia, Delaware, Kansas, and Minnesota rounding out the top 5.

The bottom five go to Utah in last place, then North Dakota, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Maine rounding out the bottom 5.
Interesting to see state size and regionality doesn't matter. Both the top 5 and bottom 5 are from all over.
