Kitchen Fire Engulfs Mercedes and Family [PHOTOS, VIDEO]

The corner of 56th and Tieton won't be the same, at least not for a while, as popular restaurant Mercedes and Family was in a cloud of smoke Saturday afternoon.

Around noon on Saturday (July 14), it seems as if a fire broke out at Mercedes and Family in the kitchen. The fast-acting employees made sure everyone got out safely. They also warned neighboring Joy Garden as that restaurant shares a building with Mercedes and Family.

Joy Garden is without power for now, but it seems as if they were unaffected.

Props to the fast-acting fire departments from the surrounding areas for getting on the scene so quickly. Here's to hoping Mercedes and Family can rebuild or relocate and reopen. On a personal note, they're one of my favorite restaurants in town.
