It isn't often that we get salmon fishing here in our backyard and your window is closing.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife fishery managers have announced the closure of our little stretch of the Yakima River.

WDFW issued an emergency rule this week which closes the middle section of the Yakima River to fishing for hatchery spring chinook salmon from the Interstate 82 bridge at Union Gap to the BNSF railroad bridge approximately 600 feet downstream of Roza Dam.

Spring chinook daily counts at Roza Dam have dropped off signaling the end of the run.

Salmon fishing will remain open through Sunday, July 9 before closing officially June 10.
