Hard rock giants Queens of the Stone Age recently set out on their "Villains Tour" with U.K. rock duo Royal Blood, officially kicking off shenanigans in Port Chester, N.Y. at the Capitol Theatre in early September, and hitting a slew of major North American markets before coming to a grand close at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City this past Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The Skatt Brothers' classic track "Walk the Night" blared through the PA system as QOTSA casually took to the stage at approximately 9:20 PM. The crowd's enthusiasm immediately doubled as the band broke into the first of many songs they would go on to play in NYC that night; the groovy "If I Had a Tail" from 2013's ...Like Clockwork. During the over two-hour set, the group dished out additional ...Like Clockwork tracks such as "My God Is the Sun," "I Sat by the Ocean," "I Appear Missing," and the funky "Smooth Sailing," which ended with a fight breaking out in the general admission pit section.

"We are not here to fight, if you want to fight, stick your head up your ass and fight for air and get the f--k out," declared singer Josh Homme, also adding, "We are not the soundtrack to you fighting, we are the soundtrack to you f--king...we are here to dance, drink, and screw." A thunderous roar from the audience signified that the audience members were all on the same page.

Featuring a flash and trash, strobe-filled light show made up of a bunch of scattered long LED light tubes, some flexible enough to allow band members to punch, kick and release their aggression to, Queens continued on with their biggest show in the Big Apple to date. Unsurprisingly, the guys performed a good amount of fresh new hits from their high-charting album Villains, playing "Feet Don't Fail Me," the ultra catchy "The Way You Used to Do," "The Evil Has Landed," "Domesticated Animals," "Villains of Circumstance," and the first encore song "Head Like a Haunted House," which the band have been randomly adding to their new shows. The new material was received well by fans, who could be seen dancing and waving their hands in the air from all the way high up in the cheap seats.

Songs off of 2007's Era Vulgaris and 2005's Lullabies to Paralyze made it into the band's lengthy setlist, with super fan-favorites "Little Sister," "Sick, Sick, Sick" and "Make It Wit Chu" sending the crowd into a craze, and even at one point causing Homme to forget the lyrics to his own song. "I forgot the f--king words. Hold on, where’s that drink? I need it back," pleaded Josh moments after handing over his beverage to a concert-goer in the audience. The random attendee obliged, returning the nearly empty cup, which was met with a disappointed shrug from the frontman. Hardcore QOTSA fans exploded in glee as the band also dished out the title-track to their first album Queens of the Stone Age, along with "Monsters in the Parasol" from their sophomore LP Rated R, and a healthy dose of hits from the popular Songs for the Deaf full-length, including gems like "You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, but I Feel Like a Millionaire," "No One Knows," "Mexicola," "Go With the Flow" and the night's final song, "A Song for the Dead."

Royal Blood, who could be seen in the mosh pit toward the end of QOTSA's set, crowd surfed their way over the barricade and onto the stage, after being formally invited by the band to take a bow. A jam-packed MSG cheered the U.K. duo, who had previously opened the evening, performing new cuts from their latest effort How Did We Get So Dark?, like "Where Are You Now?," "Lights Out," "I Only Lie When I Love You," "Hook, Line & Sinker" and "Hole in Your Heart." A few songs from the act's 2014 self-titled debut, such as "You Can Be So Cruel," "Little Monster," "Figure It Out" and the riffy barrage "Out of the Black," complimented the band's strong 50-minute rager.

Queens of the Stone Age recently announced a new set of tour dates for early 2018, which sees the gang taking on Canada and the West Coast of the US.
