Well, there’s no telling what politics will look like when SNL resumes this fall, but a season oriented around Trump was bound to send him off in style. So it was, that Saturday’s season finale called back to Kate McKinnon’s moving “Hallelujah” with a cold open paying tribute to the Trump players, including Scarlett Johansson!

SNL isn’t always one to follow expectations, but with Melissa McCarthy hosting full-time after three Sean Spicer appearances, you knew they’d go all out. Watch McCarthy take Spicey to the streets in an elaborate SNL production setup for the weekend.

It made sense of SNL to hire Melissa McCarthy for a fifth hosting gig, rather than rely on a weekly Sean Spicer impression. Nonetheless, our first live coast-to-coast SNL show managed to coax McCarthy’s Spicer out for Easter, and with an intriguing twist at that.

It’s three out, and three in for SNL Season 42, at least so far. Where previously writer Mikey Day was eyed to join the cast in the wake of Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah and Jon Rudnitsky’s departure, NBC has done two better. Day will indeed join the cast, alongside fellow new additions Alex Moffat, and Melissa Villaseñor.

No late-night comedians could easily resist the call of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, and it looks like SNL will be getting in on the fun as well. Long before Season 42 hits NBC, Colin Jost and Michael Che will bring special editions of Weekend Update to MSNBC for both events.

At long last, all our efforts to brave another SNL season will pay off when distinguished alum Fred Armisen takes the stage to host the Season 41 finale. Armisen hasn’t exactly been a stranger to Studio 8H, but seems a bit forgetful in his first SNL finale promos with fellow veteran Kate McKinnon.

SNL hasn’t yet revealed its final host of Season 41, let alone what, if any cast turnover to expect in Season 42, but a notable change is already afoot. The NBC mainstay will cut at least two commercial breaks from live airings next season, but what might replace the additional runtime?

Among many aspects of the original Xena revered by fans, there was the layered, lifelong relationship between Lucy Lawless’ title character and Renee O’Connor’s Gabrielle that grew to carry distinct romantic undertones. NBC’s proposed reboot has only a script in the works for now, but promises to fully explore the pair’s relationship, without confining anything to subtext.

The world of movie-TV reboots accommodates a great many approaches these days, not the least curious of which will see Liam Neeson’s Taken character Bryan Mills returned to his formative years, yet still in the modern day. We now know which actor will develop his particular set of skills as well, setting Vikings star Clive Standen as our new Taken man.

It seemed a particularly NBC move to reboot Xena: Warrior Princess with a modern bent, even with the strong choice of LOST alum Javier Grillo-Marxuach showrunning. Now, Grillo-Marxuach confirms not only that the reboot won’t be set in modern times, but that we can expect classic elements like Gabrielle and the Chakram, as well as a few Game of Thrones-inspired updates.

Last week’s 2016 SNL premiere with Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Adam Driver proved every bit as delightful as we’d hoped, but will Ronda Rousey pack the same punch? The Furious 7 star’s first official promos have arrived, as Rousey predictably overpowers Beck Bennett and pretty much anyone in New York.

Netflix has made no secret of how secret they keep any sort of “ratings” data for their original programming, a constant source of frustration to networks still under the Nielsen model, itself no longer a valid measurement of a given show’s audience. Now, NBC claims to have gotten a bit of payback, utilizing some unique approaches to measure Netflix’s overall viewers, and suggesting it on par with broadcast.
