Prepare thyself as the weather we're about to experience is indicative more of Las Vegas or California's Death Valley than of Central Washington. The National Weather Service predicts that we'll have AT LEAST 12 straight days of 105-plus-degree high temperatures in a row in Yakima! Not just 100 or higher, but 105 or more beginning this Friday and lasting until at least Tuesday (July 7) if not longer. Ugh!

If you have a second refrigerator or a big freezer I would suggest making as much ice as possible and stocking up on plenty of water as this is the type of weather that can tax power utilities to the point of brownouts and potentially, blackouts.

Please pay special attention to this notice from the National Weather Service: "PERSONS ARE URGED TO USE CAUTION WHEN PARTICIPATING IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SUCH AS WORKING OR RECREATIONAL EVENTS AS HEAT EXHAUSTION OR STROKE CAN EASILY OCCUR. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING IN YOUR HOME PLAN AN OUTING THAT TAKES YOU TO AN AIR
CONDITIONED LOCATION FOR AT LEAST PART OF THE DAY. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER OR YOUR FAVORITE THIRST QUENCHER BEVERAGE TO PREVENT DEHYDRATION.

We might also add to please make sure to keep your pets indoors when possible and if they have to be outside make sure they have PLENTY of water and shade.
