Let me start off by saying I'm a complete beer snob. I don't drink anything lighter than a pale ale unless that's all that's available and it's free, but when I'm at the Walgreens on the corner of 40th and Summitview and I see a huge display 'Big Flats' beer for $2.99 a 6-pack, I'm immediately curious.

The first thing I'm hoping is that the name isn't directly related to it's carbonation levels. Naw, it turns out that Big Flats is just named after Big Flats, NY where it's canned. If you're first question is "yeah, but does it taste good", the immediate response is "it's $2.99 a 6-pack. Almost 49.19 cents a can. In fact, here's a small list of things are are more expensive than a can of Beer Flats.

  • a Snickers bar
  • a can of Coke or Pepsi from the vending machines in our KATS studios
  • a load of laundry and/or to dry said laundry
  • a Cadbury cream egg (pre-Easter, of course)
  • a 1 day movie rental from Redbox

and the list can go on and on. Needless to say, it's cheap so quality shouldn't have anything to do with it. If you want quality beer, grab anything from Ice Harbor or Snipes, or ask our friends at The Beer Shoppe or any quality beer section, really. The motto could be "Drink Beer Flats - hey, at least you're not trying to get a cheap buzz of Nyquil"

That being said, Nyquil is more expensive than a whole 6-pack of Big Flats so try it if you must. I know I saw them on display at Walgreens on 40th and Summitview but they're probably available at other Walgreens as well.

Have you tried it? What did you think?
