Throwback Thursday: Bob Dylan and the Plugz on ‘Letterman’
Dylan visited David Letterman back in 1984 with the punk rock outfit known as the Plugz. Together, they jammed “Jokerman” (above) and “License to Kill” (below), along with a cover of Sonny Boy Williamson’s “Don’t Start Me Talkin’.” Remember when all those hippies booed Dylan off the stage when he tried to perform with an electric guitar at the Newport Folk Festival? What were they thinking? He sounds great with a Stratocaster in his hands.
We’re talking a lot about Dylan lately, thanks in part to his massive Person of the Year honor from MusiCares and his latest album, ‘Shadows in the Night.’ But sometimes, it’s nice to sit back and reminisce about this Dylan, a performer who rocked late night TV with some of the first Latino punk rockers to emerge in the states.
As he celebrates his record of Frank Sinatra cover tunes, enjoy Dylan’s rendition of “Jokerman” with the Plugz — from more than 30 years ago — below:
