When it comes to tastes in music, I can honestly say I like everything. Yes, it's true. I usually don't go out of my way to listen to a lot of the "non-rock" stuff, but if you look through my music collection, you'll find music from all genres. Rap I enjoy Eminem, Insane Clown Posse, Tupac & Snoop Dogg, in country I like Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, and I'd be lieing if I didn't know the words to some Dixie Chicks songs. On the hip hop side, I enjoy many, and flat out admit that I have a huge crush on Selena Gomez. Even to the point that one of my friends told me how she dated Justin Bieber, and I just replied, "Good, so she's use to disappointment." When I kick back and actually listen to music though, I usually reach for the comedy stuff. "Weird Al", Tenacious D, Stephen Lynch, Tim Minchin, but down deep, rock is where I love.

With the KATS music battle G.R.O.A.T. contest powered by Papa Murphy's Pizza kickin' off on Monday, i thought I'd list who I feel should be in the 32 brackets. For me, there's no particular order, and the only category is, they have to rock, or at least be able to rock. Some of my picks, people won't agree with, that's cool, that's the beauty about being in America, we can like different things (at least, as of writing this post). If you think my choices suck, to you, they probably do, and heck, what you might love, someone else will probably thinks suck. It's really a beautiful thing that Beavis & Butt-Head said best, "you need, like, stuff that sucks to have stuff that’s cool."

The Offspring: I don't think they'd win, but I will say, when I saw them rock Spokane in 2018 with an acoustic set... that was the most fun concert I've ever been to!

KISS: Singing Mimes that spit fire! What doesn't scream ROCK!

Boston: One of my Dad's favorite bands, and has turned into one of my favorite bands!

Metallica: Honestly, they are one of my top contenders for the G.R.O.A.T.

Green Day: I don't think they will win, next to hard hitters like Metallica & Godsmack, but they've filled arenas the world over, and have stayed consistent! Especially with the original line-up!

Queens of the Stone Age: I was introduced to them as "Stoner Rock"... I'm not a stoner, but I do love their rock!

Godsmack: They say you find your true music in highschool. For me, that is Godsmack!

Queen: What's not to love, and since they're already royalty, why not make them the Greatest!

Aerosmith: Not sure if it was the music or Liv Tyler & Alicia Silverstone that drew me to Aerosmith when I was growing up, but either way, their music stuck with me through out the years! I even own Steven's solo country album!

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Any band that can use the word California as much as them, deserves to be in the competition!

Korn: They just helped a teacher teach the ABC's... what's not to love!

The Pretty Reckless: Taylor Momsen is a goddess in my eyes... and she rocks pretty damn hard too!

Foo Fighters: It's Dave's World, and we're just living in it!

Chicago: Another one of my dad's favorites that I was raised with. They are classified as rock (classic rock), but their awesome mix of horns with the rest of the band has always been a thing of beauty for me.

Reel Big Fish: If Chicago was still putting out music today, with as much energy as they did when they were at the top of their game, they might be leading the Ska scene... that is where, my all time favorite band comes into play. Reel Big Fish. If you say horns don't belong in rock music, take a closer look at Aerosmith!

AC/DC: Considering how long they've been around, and how their latest album Power Up dominated the sales charts... they might be the band to beat!

The Rolling Stones: Once again, a band whose legacy speaks for itself!

Stone Sour: If Corey Taylor is involved, it's gonna rock! I love Slipknot, but when it comes to music, I tend to reach for the maskless ones more often.

Led Zeppelin: I have a love hate relationship with this band. I give them all the honor and respect they need, but when I first got into music, my brother would play them so much, that I got burned out at a very early age. Still, they deserve to be in the fight.

Van Halen: Not Van Hagar... you know why!

In This Moment: One of my all time rock goddess crushes, the lovely & extremely talented Maria Brink. Be careful of the Black Widow in this competition!

Pantera: The band that ended way too soon, and with the losses of half the band, we'll never get another one like them!

Disturbed: I've seen this band live many times, and very few that I've seen can command a crowd the way David Draiman can.

White Zombie: Whether he's solo or with a band, or behind the camera... Rob Zombie knows his craft!

Black Sabbath: I could put Ozzy by himself, but I'm hoping this will be a "band" type thing. I'm also proud to say that Black Sabbath is the first box set I ever bought!

Primus: With a greatest hits album called "They Can't All Be Zingers", what's not to love!

Rush: I was a late bloomer when it comes for my love of Rush. In fact I owe it to the video game, sci-fi book Ready Player One. It opened my ears to Rush, and I'm so glad it did!

Sevendust: One of the few bands that I own every album ever released, and can listen to them back to front without ever skipping a song. Plus the energy level live in concert is 2nd to none!

Volbeat: When I first read a description of the band, it was "They're sound is like Johnny Cash & Elvis had a baby... and Metallica raised it!" I was hooked!

Soundgarden: My brother's favorite band! Luckily I did not get burned out by them the way I did Led Zep. in fact, they are one of my top tier bands as well!

Tool: Only thing they have against them not winning... is the decades between album releases!

Rage Against The Machine: Rap Rock at it's finest & angriest!

Alice In Chains: The duo singing harmonies is one of my favorite things about this band!

"Weird Al" Yankovic: Yes, not a band, although he's had the same members ever since he started! It's one thing to write a rock song, but it's another to right one in the style of so many other great artists, and to mimic their sound perfectly!

I have many others that I didn't include on the list... Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Linkin Park, The Black Crowes, Monster Magnet, Weezer, Powerman 5000, Spinal Tap, too many to list. Who of my pics will make it to the actual brackets of the G.R.O.A.T.? We'll find out starting Monday!
