Firefighters continue to battle the flames of a fire in the Wenas Valley that's grown to more than 1,000 acres since it was reported early Tuesday in the 4900 block of Wenas Road.

Joe Smiley with the State Department of Natural Resources says the brush and grass fire is being pushed by wind, and that about 100 homes in the area of the fire are under Level 2 evacuation -- meaning residents have been told to be ready to leave at a moment's notice.

"We've got a lot of local and state fire crews on the scene along with three helicopters battling the blaze," Smiley says.

Ground crews are also working to contain the fire, he says. Wind is challenging firefighters who are trying to keep the fire away from homes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries have been reported.
