In the past couple of months, we've seen many recalls.

From coffee cups to cheese, bread to a different type of cheese, and even air rifles to oats and… cheese.

Now, we can add another recall to the 2024 batch.

Walnuts are now the latest addition to the recall list.

Before you start throwing away ALL of your walnuts, the ones in question are "Organic Walnuts".

According to the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the product is "Organic Walnut halves and pieces sold in bulk bins at Natural food and co-op stores."

The organic Walnuts are being recalled due to E. coli contamination, and the FDA is investigating the source and how far the contamination has spread.

As of this writing, there have been 12 confirmed illnesses, including 7 hospitalizations from E. coli, and of the cases, all reported eating organic walnuts.

The walnuts originated from Gibson Farms, Inc. in Hollister, California, and distributed to stores in several states, including Washington, Oregon, and California.

When contamination was noticed, Gibson Farms, Inc. contacted their distributors and started a voluntary recall.

If you believe you have purchased the recalled walnuts, throw them away and sanitize any areas with which the food may have come into contact. Check your pantries, refrigerators, and freezers to ensure you have none stored.

What Are The Symptoms of E. Coli?

The E.Coli bacteria can hit people in different ways. The Cleveland Clinic has all the information on how serious it can be. Some symptoms to keep in mind are:

  • Low Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Stomach Pains / Cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Nausea / Vomiting

Symptoms can last from 5 to 7 days, but if they last any longer, seek medical help.
