Indie band Death Cab for Cutie have released a statement assuring fans their shows will always be a place to celebrate diversity. It's a move that appears to be a direct response to not only the results of the 2016 U.S. election, but to the violent incidents and hate crimes that have been reported across the country with increasing frequency since Donald Trump's shocking win.

The group posted an open letter to fans on Twitter earlier today (November 14), where they noted the importance of inclusivity at their shows while also making clear the group will never tolerate discrimination of any kind.

"We feel that there has never been a more important time to reaffirm the following," it began. "Death Cab for Cutie shows will always be a safe place for people of all colors, all genders, all sexual orientations and all beliefs to come together to celebrate music, love and mutual respect.

"That is who we are, that is what we stand for as individuals and as a band," the group's statement continued. "There are a lot of unknowns on the horizon and many things are out of our control, but we remain resolute in our commitment to creating music and maintaining a community around our band that embodies compassion, understanding, kindness and safety. Be kind to one another, stand up for one another and take care of one another."

Death Cab for Cutie previously criticized Trump with a track called “Million Dollar Loan,” as part of author Dave Eggers and Noise Pop Festival producer’s Jordan Aurland’s 30 Days, 30 Songs website, which was launched in an attempt to stop Trump from winning the presidential election.

Lead singer Ben Gibbard released a statement about the track, saying via Consequence of Sound:

Lyrically, ‘Million Dollar Loan’ deals with a particularly tone deaf moment in Donald Trump’s ascent to the Republican nomination. While campaigning in New Hampshire last year, he attempted to cast himself as a self-made man by claiming he built his fortune with just a ‘small loan of a million dollars’ from his father. Not only has this statement been proven to be wildly untrue, he was so flippant about it. It truly disgusted me. Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unworthy of the honor and responsibility of being President of the United States of America, and in no way, shape or form represents what this country truly stands for. He is beneath us.
