We may have played as Goku fighting Vegeta, Frieza and Cell plenty of times, but next-gen consoles get a turn in this E3 2014 trailer for Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, Cell, Gohan and all of your other favorite Z-Fighters (except maybe Korin and Android 8), are making the jump to next-gen in Dragon Ball Xenoverse. This trailer showcases many of our favorite fights from the first half of the iconic anime series. Xenoverse marks the return of the creators of the Budokai trilogy and we get to see what changes they have made to a game series that has spawned so many titles in the past that pretty much copied Budokai's free-roaming fighting engine.

While we were rather skeptical with Xenoverse initially, its gameplay encourages us to look at it with an open mind. Too many Dragon Ball titles have tried to emulate Budokai's format, and we have been hoping for a DBZ game to break away from such overused conventions and experiment with something new (such as the Game Boy Advance's Legacy of Goku series which debuted in 2002). Luckily, Xenoverse appears to take things in a new direction. Based on the character that arrives at the end of the trailer, it looks like you're able to create your own characters for Xenoverse and deck them out with plenty of DBZ accessories.

While no release date has been set, expect Dragon Ball Xenoverse for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Straight from the E3 showroom floor, we also have found some footage of the game in action.
