Next week is National Police Week and the Yakima Police Department is inviting the community to a Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on Friday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m. to Honor fallen Officers.

MARK YOUR SCHEDULE AND PLAN TO BE THERE

The ceremony happens at Sarg Hubbard Park at the Yakima Greenway Visitor Center Building. A news release from the Yakima Police Department says the ceremony will honor those officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

FALLEN OFFICERS AND THOSE DEDICATED TO THE FORCE WILL BE HONORED

In addition to paying tribute to fallen officers, the department will also celebrate recent promotions, recognizing the "dedication and leadership shaping the future of the force."
Department officials are hoping community members will join the department in reflecting, honoring, and celebrating the brave officers who serve and protect the Yakima Valley.

THE WEEK WAS SET ASIDE FOR OFFICERS UNDER PRESIDENT KENNEDY

The week is part of the history of the United States. In fact National Police Week was established in 1962 by a joint resolution of Congress and proclaimed by President John F. Kennedy.

IT'S A SPECIAL WEEK ALL AROUND THE UNITED STATES

The week includes various events, such as the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund’s 37th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Tuesday, May 13, which honors officers whose names have been added to the Memorial located in Washington D.C.
The week serves as a nationwide reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and the importance of supporting those who serve to keep communities safe.
