Drivers Feel Slight Gas Price Hike in Yakima

Drivers in Yakima are experiencing a slight uptick in gas prices this week, with average prices rising 3.9 cents per gallon to $3.53. That's according to a recent survey conducted by GasBuddy, which gathered data from 91 gas stations in the area.

AT LEAST PRICES ARE CHEAPER THAN LAST MONTH?!

Despite the increase, prices are more favorable than they were a month ago, down 7.1 cents per gallon, and significantly lower than they were a year ago, standing 12.7 cents per gallon less than to this time last year. Meanwhile, the national average price for diesel has also seen a rise, going up 3.7 cents in the last week to reach $3.52 per gallon.

For those in search of the best fuel prices, Wheelers Kountry Korner in Wapato is currently offering the lowest gas priced Sunday at $2.63 per gallon. Close behind, Costco and Ahtanum Fuel Stop in Union Gap are pricing their gasoline at $2.93 per gallon. The average price across Washington remains steady at $3.89, unchanged since Friday.

WHAT DOES THE NEAR FUTURE HOLD FOR PRICES?

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says “It’s been a relatively quiet week for the national average price of gasoline, with little overall movement. However, colder weather has pushed diesel prices higher and could also impact gasoline prices if refiners face disruptions." De Haan warned consumers to be mindful of potential price increases in the near future. "While gas prices haven’t shifted significantly yet, oil prices have climbed to their highest levels since October, primarily due to President Biden’s new sanctions on so-called dark vessels, which have restricted countries like Iran from selling oil. This may lead to noticeable increases in gas prices ahead."

Seasonal trends suggest that weak demand might mitigate some immediate impacts, but De Haan says the upcoming refinery maintenance season—when production is typically reduced—could trigger a significant rise in prices as spring approaches.
