5 Most Haunted Places in Yakima
Here are 4 locations in Yakima that are supposedly haunted! Maybe instead of trick-or-treating, do a little investigation on Halloween!
Capitol Theatre
The historic Capitol Theatre has been said by staff to be haunted by a ghost named “Shorty.” Supposedly, Shorty was a theatre technician in the 1930s who fell desperately in love with a performing actress who didn’t share his feelings. He then killed himself somewhere on the property.
However, Capitol Theatre staff have said Shorty has not been a menacing presence and is even described as helpful sometimes, with a noted incident of him supposedly turning on a disconnected heater in a cold room.
Yakima Train Depot
The Old Yakima Train Depot is also a place you might not want to be at by yourself at night. Witnesses have described seeing a strange lady in white on the staircase, strange children’s laughter, and organ music in the wee hours of the morning. Former employees and paranormal investigation groups have claimed to capture paranormal activity on video. We’d love to see it!
The Lund Building
The Lund Building in Yakima was built in 1899 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If only the walls could talk, we could hear the amazing stories they could tell. Everything from a boxing club to a clothing store to restaurants has been located inside.
Maybe the reason it hasn’t been able to keep a business for too long is due to paranormal activity. Past business owners have reported dishes flying across the room unprompted and shattering. The basement is also said to have an eerie atmosphere with unexplained sounds and temperature changes.
Old St. Elizabeth’s Hospital
St. Elizabeth’s Hospital was a medical facility founded in 1891 by the Catholic Sisters of Providence. The institution was sold to Health Management Associates and closed in 2020 under the Astria banner.
Those obsessed with the supernatural have always been obsessed with underground tunnels attaching the building to the old nursing school and parking structures. Unexplained sounds and creepy shifting shadows have been noted in the early morning hours. Note that the facility is now closed and off-limits to the public. There are numerous safety hazards in the old building, including exposure to toxic chemicals like asbestos.
