Everyone wants safe streets and you can help make streets in the Yakima Valley safer by taking a quick survey.

IT'S CALLED A REGIONAL SAFETY ACTION PLAN

The Yakima Valley Conference of Governments has created a Regional Safety Action Plan and they're inviting everyone to make it happen through a quick survey where you can pinpoint the areas where you have safety concerns and help further shape the plan. YVCOG officials say more than 40,000 people die on road throughout America with 800 of the fatalities happening in Washington state.

PEOPLE DIE ON WASHINGTON ROADS

Yakima sees an average of 40 fatality crashes every year. To reduce or eliminate the fatality crashes the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) created a new National Roadway Safety Strategy, setting a goal of zero roadway deaths. In support of that strategy, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) established the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) program to fund roadway safety projects across the country.

SO WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YAKIMA?

YVCOG officials say by spring of 2026 they plan to adopt a Regional Safety Action Plan. A press release says the plan is driven by the "Safe System Approach, which asserts that while crashes may be inevitable, death and serious injuries resulting from those crashes are preventable."
The officials say imagine the Yakima Valley region where every trip feels safe, accessible, and enjoyable. What changes would make a difference for you?
