Is This the Best Bread in WA? Consumer Reports Thinks So
Consumer Reports tasted and tested 56 different brands of bread. The clear winner at the end of all of this was Ezekiel 4:9. If you were like me, you've never heard of Ezekiel 4:9 bread, but that's OK; it's a big world out there.

According to msn.com,
‘The nonprofit consumer advocate organization conducts expert lab tests and gives bread an overall score as well as comparisons of package and serving size, health benefits, and price. Its number one choice for store-bought bread isn't Dave's Killer Bread or Pepperidge Farm; in fact, the choice might surprise you.’
This bread ranked number one for several reasons. When tested it showed 0 grams of sugar and 75 milligrams of salt per slice (that is low), 3 grams of fiber, 19 grams of whole grains, and packed with protein at 5grams per serving. Ticking all the boxes, it's preservative free, non-GMO, and made from natural organic ingredients. Because the bread is preservative free, you will most likely find it in the freezer aisle where you shop.

What is sprouted grain?
This bread making process is something I've never heard about, although I guess that's not surprising since I'm a bread eater, not a bread maker. First, you take your whole grain seeds, and you soak them until they germinate. At that point you mash them up into a puree and add that to your bread dough. What you get in the end is a bread product that enhances absorption of vitamins, Proteins, minerals and antioxidants. Sprouted grain breads are also easier to digest and are helpful in controlling blood sugar.

Where to find it.
Ezekiel 4:9 is a product from Food for Life who creates lots of different bread products. All from sprouted seeds and all natural ingredients. They use a special slow baking process to help preserve the nutrition and flavor of the bread. Customers of multiple retailers including Amazon, Target, Safeway, and Walmart give it high marks for flavor.
If you are like me and would like to try this out sometime soon, look in the freezer aisle at Walmart, Safeway, Target, Kroger, and Whole Foods.
So, here's the deal.

I went to the Food for Life website and checked that out. They have a large selection of bread products that they offer, and there's a location on their website that you can click on to find out where you can find their products close to you. The only, and I stress this, the only location that they had on their website that they said had Ezekiel 4:9 bread available was right across the street from where I work at Wenatchee Natural Foods, 222 N Wenatchee Ave. Wenatchee.

So, I went across the street and did a little shopping. The result is they had what I was looking for. I bought a loaf and came back to work and tried it out.
The results?
It basically just looks like a standard small loaf of bread. It was frozen solid, so I did have to let it thaw just enough to bust a couple of slices off, and I tried it out after it had thawed completely. To me, it looks and tastes like your average whole wheat bread. What's special is how it's made, and what it's made from. I chatted with my sister on the phone for just a moment this morning to tell her about the product and she was interested because she can't eat gluten.
If you're up for a loaf of bread, that costs $8.99, Then maybe this is for you.
Just a note, I did try to find some at Safeway yesterday, no luck.
