Officials said he admitted he was a lieutenant or Regional Commander for the La Nuestra Familia gang, or NF.  He had created a code system, and used it to oversee drug activity, and it was done to generate money to his superiors that he was responsible for.

Federal Officials Figured Out His Code

According to the National Gang Unit and the US Attorney's Office:

"Through the NGU’s diligence, they uncovered this scheme, broke the code being used, and determined there was a package of fentanyl pills heading to Spokane, Washington. They passed this information to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, who located and seized the package from the commercial carrier preventing their distribution into the community."

Ramirez's attorneys had asked for the ten years to run concurrent with his 28 year sentence, but the Court added it onto the end, saying "there is no free crime."

Once he is out in 24 years, he will face another 8 years of supervised probation.
