Red Robin Announces It Could Be Closing 70 Locations Across the Country
As more news stories come out about businesses closing locations here and there or, in some cases, closing all locations, it's always a scary headline to see when you discover another business with deep roots to your own and taps into your own nostalgia could be meeting a certain demise.
Next on the long list of businesses closing some (not all) locations has history right here in Yakima.
That would be our friends at Red Robin.
Yakima's Red Robin was the First Franchised Red Robin
It's true!
Opening their first location in Seattle back in 1969, the first location to open outside of Seattle was the Yakima location. If you grew up in Yakima in the '80s through to the early 2010s you may remember it's legendry location at Nob Hill Plaza (now Rainier Square) and the fact it was right next to Blockbuster Video would always make it for a perfect location.
The report from Fast Company says they're looking at closing 70 underperforming locations across the country in the next 5 years.
Maybe as many as 15 locations by the end of this year.
They have almost 500 stores so there's a slight chance that Yakima could be one of those locations.
Is Yakima's location safe from closing?

As of this time, it's not announced that Yakima's location will close anytime soon. And let's hope we keep it that way.
If we hear anything otherwise we'll let you know as soon as we do.
