Jet Funny Car Returns to Renegade Raceway This Weekend

Have you ever witnessed the power, speed and fury of a jet funny car in person? IF not, you have that chance this weekend right here in the Yakima Valley.

Derek Snelson's EFX Tomahawk will be appearing Friday and Saturday night at Renegade Raceway in Wapato as part of an entire holiday weekend of drag racing at the quarter-mile strip (located at 1395 North Track Road).

This weekend's event schedule is all part of the raceway's 10th annual Dee Adams Memorial held, appropriately, on Memorial Day weekend.

A few years ago I had the chance to see this bad boy up-close and personal and it is impossible to describe. You really have to see it for yourself to believe it! One cool thing about our local track is the accessibility that fans and spectators have to the strip and pits.

Funny cars are already cool looking, but when the body of the jet funny car was lifted up, I was able to see that, in reality, it was basically a giant jet engine on a chassis with a chair basically bolted to the side of it!

WARNING: If you choose to go, you may want to bring ear protection as it gets LOUD!

Also, I stood behind the car about 50 yards behind the "Christmas Tree" (aka, the start line) and the heat from the jet engine as it was revved almost singed my eyebrows!
