Here’s Why You Can Thank (or Blame) Meat Loaf for Donald Trump’s Presidency
Could it be that Meat Loaf had a much bigger impact on world history than we ever thought possible?
That's one conclusion you can draw from the above video, in which the "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" singer convinces Donald Trump to run for president. The impromptu conversation took place during a 2011 episode of Trump's NBC reality show The Celebrity Apprentice.
After Trump tells the contestants that "everybody is saying" he should run for president, he specifically asks Meat Loaf for his opinion. "Absolutely!" the Bat Out of Hell star replies. "I would vote for you. In fact, I'll help you with your campaign."
Four years later, Trump formally announced his entry into the 2016 Presidential election. This past November, he stunned many political experts -- and drew strong reactions from the music community -- when he defeated Hillary Clinton to become the 45th leader of the free world.
Despite completely and infamously melting down over some missing art supplies, Meat Loaf survived until the second-to-last episode of the 2011 competition. In that regard, he beat out fellow rock star Celebrity Apprentice alumni such as Gene Simmons (voted out in week three back in 2008), but fell short of the high standard set by Poison singer Bret Michaels, who won the 2010 edition of the program.
Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider lasted eight weeks in the 2012 series. Both Snider and Michaels returned for All-Star Celebrity Apprentice the following year, but they were the first two candidates fired by Trump.
Currently, Motley Crue singer Vince Neil is competing in the new, Arnold Schwarzenegger-hosted edition of Celebrity Apprentice.
